EM61 METAL DETECTION SURVEY
DIFFERENTIAL RESULTS
(focused on larger metal objects)
The EM61 metal detection instrument records several different sensitivity levels simultaneously.
Comparison of the different sensitivity data sets, referred to as time gates, allows the client to  differentiate
anomalies that are in response to miscellaneous metal debris and conduits from larger metal objects such
as drums and underground storage tanks (USTs).

The above contour maps illustrate how the time gate data sets respond to various buried metal objects.
The early time gate results (top map) is the most sensitive component of the EM61 instrument and respond
to all metal objects regardless of size.  The differential results (bottom map) respond to the larger metal
objects such as drums and USTs and ignore the miscellaneous metal debris and small-diameter conduits.
